Olympic National Park Photography : Welcome to my Olympic National Park Photography gallery. Here you will find all of my feautured photos of Olympic National Park. Olympic National Park is located in Northwest Washington. It borders long stretches of the Pacific Ocean in Western Washington, and to the north of the borders of the park is the Strait of Juan de Fuca. President Roosevelt created the Olympic National Monument in 1909. The park is now designated as an International Biosphere Reserve and a World Heritage Site. Olympic National Park is a beautiful and unique place that encompasses snow-capped mountains, temperate rainforest, and a 73 mile wild and undeveloped section of the Pacific Coast. The Olympic Mountains are located in the center of the park. A great place to view and take pictures of the mountains is from Hurricane Ridge. If you are fit enough to go on a lengthy and strenuous hike, the seven lakes basin area is a great way to see some of the Olympic Mountains. My favorite section of Olympic National Park is the thin section of the park that runs along the Pacific Ocean. Hiking and camping along the wild and undeveloped Pacific Coast is a unique and unforgettable experience. Popular hiking, backcountry camping, and photography locations include Kalaloch, Cape Alava, Sand Point, Second Beach, Ruby Beach, and Rialto Beach. The Hoh Rainforest is another unique section of Olympic National Park. The Hoh Rainforest and Quinalt Rainforest are the wettest areas of the continental United States. The old growth forests draped in green moss and the crystal clear rivers and streams that run through the forest are the most popular attraction. If you come during the right ime of year in the fall, you can see the salmon swimming up the river to spawn. It is always amazing to see the strength and determination of these salmon as they swim upstream in sometimes shallow water and in areas nearly blocked by fallen trees. In the northern section of the park popular locations include the Sol Duc River, Sol Duc Falls, Marymere Falls, and Crescent Lake. Short and long hikes, car camping, and backcountry camping are available along the Sol Duc Hot Springs Road. For a more luxurious lodging experience, you can stay in the cabins at the Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort, which is one of the few lodging areas permitted within national park boundaries. I have made about 5 or 6 hiking and backcountry camping trips into Olympic National Park, but there are still numerous areas of the park that I have yet to explore. I imagine that I could probably take dozens of hiking trips into the park without becoming bored of the beauty that is there. Great Smoky Mountains National Park : Welcome to my Great Smoky Mountains National park photography gallery. These national park photos were taken from numerous areas in the park, including Elkmont, Jakes Creek, the Little River, the Lynn Camp Prong, the Goshen Prong, and the Oconaluftee River. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is located in North Carolina and Tennessee, and is about 814 square miles in size. The highest point in the park is at Clingman's Dome, at 6,643 feet in elevation. There are about 850 miles of trails and unpaved roads in the park that are designed for hiking, horseback riding, and backcountry camping. Needless to say, there are numerous opportunities to take photos of landscapes and wildlife along these backcountry trails. Fishing and biking are also popular activites in the national park. One of the most scenic times of year is in the fall when the leaves of the trees turn bright red, orange, and gold. Photographers from all of the country travel to the Smokies to take pictures of the spectacular fall color display. Wildlife photography is also very popular in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Numerous animal species exist in the park, and include black bear, deer, raccoons, rabbits, white-tailed deer, bobcats, red foxes, and mink. There have also been reported sightings of mountain lions within the park. When taking photos of wildlife, be sure to use your telephoto lens and shoot from a distance to avoid disturbing the wildlife. One of the more popular places to take photos of wildlife is the Cades Cove area. The only downside to taking pictures of wildlife in Cades Cove is that the traffic on the Cades Cove loop is usually bumper to bumper. Wildlife photography will probably be most productive at dawn when the wildlife are most active and when the crowds are at a minimum. Black bear and white-tailed deer are frequently spotted in Cade's Cove. Photographers also love to take photos of of the streams, river, and waterfalls of Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Popular waterfall photography locations include Laurel Falls, Abrams Falls, the Grotto Falls, and Rainbow Falls. The hiking trails leading to these falls are often crowded, so it is often best to travel to the waterfalls at dawn to take your pictures.

Redwood National Park Photography : Welcome to my Redwood National Park Photography gallery. Here you will find my photos of the Redwood groves and of the Pacific coast in Redwood National Park. Redwood National Park is located in Northern California and consists of about 132,000 acre of land. Redwood National Park protects about half of the remaining old growth redwood trees that remain in California. Redwood trees once covered about 2,000,000 acres in California before being chopped down for lumber. Redwood National Park includes Prairie Creek State Park, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park and the Del Norte Coast State Park. Some of the old growth trees in the park are more than 2,000 years old, and have reached up to 300 feet in height. Standing under the shadows of these giant redwood trees is an amazing experience. My favorite redwood tree groves in the park are the Lady Bird Johnson Grove and Stout Grove. Redwood National Park is now an International Biosphere Reserve and a World Heritage Site. Sections of Redwood National Park border undeveloped sections of the Pacific Ocean. Exploring and taking pictures of these wild coastal areas is a real treat. My favorite coastal beach areas include False Klamath Cove and Enderts Beach. Redwood National Park Photography can be a challenging experience because even the widest wide angle lenses on the best cameras have trouble capturing the length and height of the giant redwood trees. That is why you will usually not see the entire height of the redwood trees in most of my photos. Hiking, camping, and photography opportunities in Redwood National Park are abundant. Whale watching is also very popular. Wildlife in the park include black bear, elk, mountain lions, deer, and numerous species of birds. Car camping and backcountry camping opportunities are available in several areas of the park. Lodging is also available in Klamath, Crescent City, and Orick. In my opinion, the best lodging available in the park is at the Historic Requa Inn in the city of Klamath. The Historic Requa Inn is a bed and breakfast inn located on the Klamath River and is only 1 mile from the Pacific Ocean.
